Replica Breguet Classique ultra-thin watches copy the Classique 5157. The genuine 5157 measures 38 mm across and 5.4 mm thick. Its case is 18k gold. Its Breguet 502.3 movement is 3.0 mm thick. Most replicas measure between 8.5 mm and 9.5 mm thick. That gap of 3 mm or more is the first check with calipers.

Where copies diverge
Thickness. A Miyota 9015 is 3.9 mm thick on its own. Add a rotor, a movement ring and a caseback and the watch cannot sit at 5.4 mm. Copies use a taller case and a thicker bezel to hide it. Check the side profile. The genuine case tapers into the lugs with no step.
Dial. Engine-turning cuts a V groove into gold. The lines reflect light in one direction and go dark when the wrist turns. Printed or stamped patterns stay flat. Under a 10x loupe, printed guilloche shows a dot screen.
Hands. Breguet blued steel is heated, not painted. The color is deep blue with a purple edge under light. Replica hands are painted or PVD coated and read as flat blue or black.
Movement. Most replicas run a Miyota 9015 at 28,800 vph or a Seagull ST18 at 21,600 vph, with a rotor engraved to look like Breguet. The 9015 sweeps at 8 beats per second. The 502.3 sweeps at 6. Watch the seconds hand for 10 seconds.
Weight. Gold has a density of 15.6 g/cm3. Steel is 7.9 g/cm3. A 38 mm gold case weighs close to twice a steel case of the same size. Plated brass and plated steel copies come in light.
Legal status in the US
Counterfeit watches infringe the Breguet trademark, owned by The Swatch Group. - Measure case height with calipers. Above 6 mm, it is not a 5157 case.
- Look for the secret signature Breguet places in the dial. Copies print it in the wrong spot or leave it out.
- Time the seconds hand. 8 beats per second points to a Miyota 9015.
- Weigh the head. Under 40 g points to steel or plated brass.
- Read the caseback engraving. Genuine engraving is deep and even. Laser etching on copies is shallow and gray.
