Compare a steel Submariner Date at an authorized dealer. Rolex does not discount. That watch lists above $10,000 and trades higher on the secondary market. A $450 replica is about 4 percent of the genuine price. That gap drives the market. It also means resale value is near zero.

Movement
A quartz module costs the factory under $5. A DG2813 costs about $12. A clone 3135 with a working quick-set date and a 28,800 vph beat rate costs $80 to $150 on its own. The movement is 30 to 50 percent of the build cost. Ask for the beat rate in vibrations per hour and a timegrapher photo. A 28,800 vph movement sweeps at 8 ticks per second. Steel and Plating
316L steel is the baseline. 904L is harder to machine and costs more. On gold models, plating thickness is measured in microns. 1 to 3 microns wears through at the lugs and clasp in under a year. Ask for the micron figure in writing before payment.
Crystal, Crown, and Bracelet
A sapphire crystal costs $15 to $40. Mineral glass costs $2. The crown and tube must be screw-down to hold any water resistance. Bracelet end links should sit flush against the case. Sellers send QC photos. Ask for the clasp code, the weight in grams, and the case diameter in millimeters first.
Payment
