What the names actually mean

The Sea-Dweller 4000 prints "SEA-DWELLER" above "ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE" and "4000ft=1220m" at the bottom of the dial. The Deepsea prints "DEEPSEA" above the depth rating and carries the words "ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE RING LOCK SYSTEM" in a ring around the inner dial. Confusing the two is common in replica listings because counterfeiters mix dial prints, case sizes, and bezel styles to move stock. Authentication starts with matching dial text to reference number to case dimensions.
